Working together to build a resilient future.

What is “Our Communities, Our Bay”?

“Our Communities, Our Bay” is a research project with two goals: to know how communities are impacted by climate hazards, and find technologies and practices that best protect the health of families.

Your involvement with our project would help us understand how climate hazards may specifically affect your community. You would also help us test out tools that may reduce your risk to climate hazards. Everyone can test out different tools, so together, we can figure out what best helps protect us from harm.

Enrollment for this three year project begins April 2022.

 Your participation

Over the course of three years, families who join “Our Communities, Our Bay” will get to:

  • Use our smartphone app

The “Our Communities” app shows you information about your air quality, and asks you questions about your experiences. You can also learn about smoke and air quality using the app.

  • Try out technology

You can use cutting-edge technology so we can find solutions that improve health. This technology could include custom app features, a HEPA air filter, air sensors, and more.

  • Share your experience

Through surveys, phone calls, or in-person meetings, we want to hear your opinions and experiences so we can understand how climate hazards affect you and your community.

Your benefits

Everyone who joins will get to use an air sensor, and help us understand how climate hazards affect your community. All participants are also eligible to receive up to $290, and a chance to win $1000 or a free iPad Pro over the next three years.

PurpleAir™ air sensor

Data from the air sensor can help you make decisions to protect your health when air quality gets bad. This is important because indoor air quality is related to respiratory health –the better the air quality, the better you breathe. We hope this information is empowering to make the best decisions for you and your family.
